Project TITAN: Additive Drives scales up the production of ultra-efficient electric motors for the European heat pump market.

With Project TITAN, Additive Drives is preparing the next big step on the road to industrial scaling.

The project was defined as a key strategic project by both the management and the most important shareholders of Additive Drives. With a planned investment volume of around 25 million euros, Project TITAN will enable the construction of a dedicated production line and the associated infrastructure. The aim is to achieve an annual production capacity of up to 80,000 ultra-efficient 5.5 kW electric motors.

The focus is on Additive Drives’ claim to transfer maximum motor efficiency into industrial series applications. The planned production line will enable the manufacture of motors based on Additive Drives’ peak efficiency platform. This platform is aimed at efficiency levels that are significantly higher than today’s established industrial motor efficiency standards and is referred to by Additive Drives as IE7+ – as a deliberate technological classification above existing standards, not as an already standardized efficiency class.

The motors produced as part of Project TITAN are intended in particular for the European heat pump sector. They are to be used in heat pumps from European manufacturers and thus contribute to further increasing the efficiency of modern heating technologies.

Project TITAN thus addresses a key challenge of the European energy transition, namely the efficient electrification of heat through powerful and highly efficient heat pump technology. The higher motor efficiency can reduce energy consumption and operating costs, while at the same time strengthening European cleantech value chains.

Additive Drives uses highly efficient induction motor concepts for its technology. The approach aims to achieve high efficiency without the use of rare earths and, depending on the application, without a dedicated motor controller.

Project TITAN is currently scheduled to reach financial close in September 2028. Commissioning of the production line is scheduled for January 2030. With this project, Additive Drives is consistently developing from a technology platform to industrialized series production.

With Project TITAN, the company aims to contribute to strengthening Europe’s production capability in the area of critical components for high-efficiency heat pump technologies and thus support the transition to a more energy-efficient, electrified heat supply.
